stay (zoom hours), wall edition

mixed media on wall, 2021

As part of the exhibition “don’t we all need vac(cin)ation” by the ÖH Akbild together with Art Kolkhoz I painted directly on a wall in a soon to be renovated house. Inspired by the drawing techniques I developed during the first lockdowns – see: “stay (zoom hours)”– I decided to make the time I spent there – with the wall in the space – somehow visible. To mark my place, leave traces and thereby create an abstract narrative.

The writings are quotations from podcasts, the radio, or songs I listened to while painting. I documented things that were said in the rooms or things I was thinking and even took part in one zoom call while painting. I used different photographs of a “heute” newspaper (which for me talks about the need for excitement, repetitive news, deformed reality, passing of time), a photo book of Florida (a symbol the longing for a place else, for a holiday, for the sea and palm trees) and an Aikido handbook (which includes lots of hand gestures and speak about the longing for touch and togetherness) to create a collage of drawings and paintings.
