Lena Ilay Schwingshandl (*1994) is an Austrian artist based in Vienna. She is interested in the dynamics of relationships and encounters both on a public and intimate level. Inspired by daily observation and self reflection, she is testing her own borders and the one of others. In her work she tries to document these experiences extensively in the form of drawings, video and performances. In several works she includes her family members and performs with them in front of the camera. Thereby she explores the authenticity of the video as well as the effect of her artistic practice on her personal relationships. In collaboration with Barbara Neu she curates the “flatconcerts” since 2018.
She finished her BA at the University of Arts and Design in Linz. during which she spent an Erasmus semester in Tallinn, Estonia. Since 2018 she studies Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. January 2020 – June 2020 she worked for Jani Ruscica as an intern in Helsinki, Finland.
